Barbie Monty is a fifth grade teacher at the Carrollwood Day School in Florida. She’s part of the PYP programme and has been a faculty member for over 14 years. Carrollwood is an authorized PYP, MYP and DP International Baccalaureate World School. It is the only school in Florida to achieve authorization in all three programs – what an accomplishment! You can find out more about Carrollwood by visiting their website.
Arnold written with the aim to boost confidence and help children find their voice. The IB Library was happy to provide her with a free set of Teacher and Student Guides. Here’s what Mrs. Monty had to say:
“I had to send you another thanks. I really appreciate the time you devoted to locating resources and suggestions for my students. I really appreciate it.
I have enjoyed going back through your emails and looking over your suggestions just now. As I stated earlier, they will be extremely helpful to our study. And, I absolutely LOVE the I Am a Person book and all of your suggestions in each of the subject areas. I plan to have my students read the book tomorrow, discuss it, and share your suggestions. I cannot wait to see what develops!
Thanks again for sending the guides. I cannot wait to thoroughly review each of them today. I also cannot wait to let my students know what you sent! They will be thrilled as well.
I shared I Am a Person with them yesterday and they loved it! It prompted an incredible discussion.”

“PYP (including the Early Years) lays the foundation of International-Mindedness. It opens the minds of Teachers, Students and Families beginning at an early age. When this focus starts in PYP, carries through MYP, then into DP, the International-Mindedness of Students is that much stronger. It is more broad in thinking, less narrow minded or superficial. It doesn’t just skim the surface, it would have had time to grow in the minds and hearts of the Students, with the support of their Teachers and Families, and be very deeply rooted by time they get to DP.” ~ Lisa MacLeod
